A prop expert has revealed how the tragic incident where Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed a cinematographer on the set of the movie Rust could have happened:
The TikToker running the account @propstohistory explained how he'd heard from people working on the set that Baldwin, 63, 'discharged a firearm directly at the camera, where Joel Souza and Halyna Hutchins were standing'.
After the prop gun was fired, it killed Ms Hutchins, the film's director of photography, and wounded director Mr Souza who has now reportedly been released from hospital.
The TikToker - who is a prop maker and artist, goes on to say: "Halyna was struck by projectile as well as was Souza.
"I know a lot of people have asked 'how could this happen?' Well, there are a number of things that could have happened.
"It's possible that the firearm that he was using was loaded with an improper blank, there was something perhaps lodged in the barrel which became a projectile, or the weapon suffered a catastrophic failure and actually blew apart."
He continued: "It hasn't been confirmed yet, but as I understand it, the prop master may have been acting as the prop master, the armourer, and the special effects coordinator.
"It's also a possibility - if that's true - that Alec Baldwin wasn't supposed to have a blank firing gun, and was in fact supposed to have either an unloaded firearm or one that was not intended to have blank in it.
"Just last week, Alec Baldwin actually made a statement about how the crew was very heavily overworked and everyone was quite tired. And that's an environment for mistakes to take place."
"As to any more specifics as to what occurred, I obviously can't say, nothing has been released [and] there's been no official statement made. But I cannot imagine how devastating this is for the crew of Rust and the people that were on-set, as well as for Alec Baldwin who certainly didn't do this intentionally.
"My sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Halyna Hutchins. This is just absolutely dreadful.
"You never want to hear about accidents like this on-set, and it's always a fear that it can happen. We'll just have to wait and see what the official reports say about what occurred.
"This is all the information I've been able to glean so far about what has happened and so far there's not a whole lot of details of course.
"The sheriff's there in Santa Fe have, of course, levelled no charges because I can't imagine this can be deemed as anything other than an accident.
"Again, my condolences to the family and friends of Halyna Hutchins... and I wish Joel Souza the best speedy recovery and also, whatever help is needed to the folks there on set. Stay safe everybody."
