Johnny Vegas has enlisted the help of Russell Crowe to spread the word about his charity in hometown of St Helens - and people can't help but notice the latter looks a little 'different'.

In a video posted on Twitter, the Gladiator star has helped to spread the word of his unlikely pal's volunteer group to his 2.7 million followers.

Johnny is part of a group taking essentials to vulnerable people and key workers in the north west town, and Russell took the time out to let everyone know, as well as having a bit of a joke at the end.

In the video, he said: "G'day folks, how you doing? This is a message on behalf of my old mate Johnny Vegas.

"If you're in the St Helens area; if you're having trouble getting food deliveries from your local supermarket; if you're NHS staff - a key worker, elderly, isolating, vulnerable, call this number."

He added: "One of the delivery workers is going to be Johnny Vegas though, so expect to lose every second or third biscuit."

He then went on to flip the camera to his awards stand and did a poor attempt at a British accent (soz Russell), saying: "What's that back there? Oh look at that, that's fancy."

If there ever was an unlikely friendship, it's these two, but it's Russell's quarantine look that has attracted attention, with some people even comparing him to Jim Royle:

Seems a bit harsh, given that we're all in the same boat.

Mainly though, people have heaped praise on the star, with those from the area seeming a bit star-struck by the video.

One person replied: "Love this Russell. I'm from St Helens Knowsley Road in fact home of the best Rugby League team in the world."

Another said: "I'm in Widnes which is about six miles away! I will arrange to drop some supplies off to the people in St Helens thanks to you and @JohnnyVegasReal for getting this message out there."

A third responded: "Best final two seconds of a celebrity corona video tweet... ever!"

Johnny thanked Russell in a later tweet:

Despite the coronavirus pandemic throwing us into challenging times, it really is bringing out the best in humanity, too.
