Terry Crews' wife Rebecca has said fame made his porn addiction worse - and it nearly destroyed their marriage.

The celebrity couple were speaking to People ahead of the launch of their new audiobook Stronger Together, which sheds light on the 30-year-marriage which has experienced its fair share of broken trust and hurt.

The pair admit in the book the thing that nearly destroyed their relationship was the former NFL star's addiction to pornography, which got so bad his wife told him not to come home at one point.

Terry, 52, told People: "Success is the warmest place to hide. I had so many people telling me I was great and it was no problem. And you know what? Hollywood didn't care.

"It still doesn't care if you lose your family; it happens everyday."

Rebecca, 55, added: "This addiction preceded the marriage, so fame just made it worse.

"It's really true that power and success amplifies what's already going on inside you, and that is why I couldn't help him."

Fortunately, after therapy and counselling, Terry is now in a better place.

Crews went on to share the best piece of advice he received when his marriage looked like it was about to fall apart.

He said: "The best piece of advice I ever got [was from] a good friend of mine, the first guy I called after Rebecca was like don't come home.

"He said, 'Terry, you need to get better for you'. That was a watershed moment because in my culture, as a man in sports, you do things to get things.

"You know, you work hard to get money. You do these things to get sex.

"But to actually improve just for yourself - that was foreign thought. It was like, wait a minute, I actually need to be a better person for myself.

"He said, 'I can't promise you if your wife is going to come back to you, you may have lost her forever, but you still need to get better for yourself.'"

Crews has opened up about overcoming his porn addiction in the past.

In a series of videos he posted to Facebook in 2016, he said: "Some people denied it. They'd say, 'Hey, man, you can't be addicted to pornography.'

"But let me tell you something: If day turns into night, and you're still watching, you've probably got a problem. And that was me."
