A mate of mine was once asked at an airport check-in whether he'd packed anything sharp in his bags.
"Only my razor-sharp wit," he replied. It didn't go down well.
Sarcasm generally doesn't when flying, as Instagram star Jen Selter discovered to her detriment on Saturday.
The fitness enthusiast, who is followed by 11.7m social media users, got into an argument with American Airlines staff during a lengthy delay to her flight from Miami to New York.

Selter is reported to have stood up to put her coat away, only to be told to sit down by an airline employee. An argument ensued, in which she was eventually spoken to by the plane's captain.
A flight attendant reportedly asked Selter asked if she wanted to be removed from the flight, to which she said yes.
"I was obviously being sarcastic," she can be seen saying in the video clip, while talking to the captain later on.

Other passengers can be heard coming to her defence, including one male passenger supposedly telling the captain: "You harassing her".
Selter and her sister were later taken off the flight by police officers, who told her the airline did not want her on the plane.
Another passenger chose to leave the American Airlines flight in what was described as a display of solidarity. She was later filmed explaining her decision, in a video posted online.

Speaking to the New York Post, Selter said: "It was humiliating. They made me feel like a terrible person, and I did nothing wrong."
She told the paper she would 'never ever fly American Airlines again'.
An American Airlines representative provided NYP with a comment, saying: "Ms. Selter was asked to leave the aircraft after a disagreement occurred last night at Miami International Airport (MIA). American offered her hotel accommodations and transportation, which she declined."
