Will Smith has explained why he's in the 'worst shape of his life' and what he plans to do about it, in a recent Instagram post.

Having shared an image yesterday (3 May) joking about his physique, today the actor shared another explaining how he got out of shape - and I think we can all relate.

He wrote: "This is the body that carried me through an entire pandemic and countless days grazing thru the pantry.

"I love this body, but I wanna FEEL better. No more midnight muffins...this is it!

"Imma get in the BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE!!!!! Teaming up with @YouTube to get my health & wellness back on track.

"Hope it works!"

Explaining that he had spent the pandemic eating 'midnight muffins', he said he's grateful to his body for carrying him through the last year - but added that he's going to get back into shape, by teaming up with YouTube.

Now, call me cynical, but the whole thing may or may not have been a plan to promote an upcoming YouTube based fitness series - either way, he's Will Smith, he can do what he wants.

The 52-year-old actor posted the shot of himself a few days ago, wearing his boxers and a jacket in the garden - as you do - and shared how he's piled on the pounds during the Covid-19 pandemic.

To be fair, he looks fine. It's been a long year for us all.

Smith is known for transforming himself for roles, dropping and gaining weight and muscle as needs be, so he'll probably have less trouble getting back into shape than most of us.

He shared the picture on his Instagram account, writing: "I'm gonna be real wit yall - I'm in the worst shape of my life."

To be fair, if that's the worst shape of his life, he's probably doing better than many of us.

And of course, he's got an army of fans online that were queuing up to tell him that he's doing OK.

One said: "You're Will Smith! You can be in whatever shape you want."

It should be clarified here that anyone can be in whatever shape they want, but the sentiment was no doubt appreciated.

Another said: "Let me be real with you. You're 52. You look great."

A third wrote: "You've been in shape your whole life. Enjoy the dad bod with pride!"
