Legendary Canadian wrestler Rocky 'Soul Man' Johnson has sadly died.

The news was first revealed by wrestling organisation The Cauliflower Alley Club, who mourned the loss of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's dad on Twitter.

"Horrible news to pass along," the tweet read. "We just learned that Rocky Johnson passed away today at the age of 75.

"His accolades in this business, all the people he influenced, all his accomplishments, and we are so deeply sorry and wish his family nothing but the most love at this time."

The iconic athlete was part of the first African-American tag team to win the World Tag Team championship in the World Wrestling Federation.

He officially retired in 1991 but had a big influence on his son, Dwayne's, meteoric rise through the ranks to become one of the most recognisable names in the sport.

But it wasn't until 2008 that he was honoured with an induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. Rocky's induction was done with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson by his side.

The WWE wrote about the moment in a statement, saying: "He will be forever enshrined as one of sports-entertainment's most influential performers."

The National Wrestling Alliance added: "The National Wrestling Alliance is saddened to hear of the passing of Rocky Johnson. His legacy stretches across every promotion. He was a champion everywhere he went including holding the NWA Georgia Championship.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his entire family."
