Man Answers Call From Girlfriend While His Ex Gives Birth

It's not what you think.

Relationships are tricky - there's no two ways about that.

So imagine the situation Stephen was in during Channel 4's documentary series One Born Every Minute.

The soon-to-be dad was with his ex lover Jodie, with whom he had a friends with benefits style relationship, as she was in labour.

But during the contractions, Stephen answered a phone call from his current girlfriend. On paper that sounds like an awkward scenario.

Before this unfolded, the 22-year-old was copping some serious flak on social media for complaining about his role in the child birth.

As his 19-year-old ex was visibly in pain, sweating and writhing in her bed, Stephen was moaning about being tired.

"I need to go and compose myself. I'm falling apart to be honest," he said.

As any guy should know by now, child birth can be an absolute bitch and extremely, horrifically painful.

He added: "I just want to go to sleep. It's fucking hard work just standing there."

Many on social media pointed out that Stephen should leave the complaining to Jodie.

Just when viewers thought Stephen was a dickhead - he got a call from his current girlfriend...

But instead of it causing an issue, the girlfriend was just calling to check up on Jodie and see how she was doing. Stephen told her that Jodie was doing well and getting through it.

Stephen said his girlfriend is very understanding about his situation.

People watching the show melted for him and realised he was actually a legend for being there while his ex gave birth.

He told the show: "Suppose we want to prove you don't have to be together to make sure you can be there for your children and things like that."

The social media tide quickly changed and everyone praised him for being a stand-up guy.

What a legend.

As Jodie pushed through her contractions I wonder if she envied Alice Payne - who managed to give birth while she was asleep.

The 23-year-old was medically induced, but shortly afterwards decided she'd quite like a nap, much to the amazement of her doctors. She woke up a short while later and 6lb 4oz Phillip was just making his way into the world.

Alice said: "Because the contraction monitor wasn't reading me properly, doctors didn't realise that I was as far along as I actually was.

"So I was given some drugs to let me nap for a couple of hours, but 30 minutes later they realised I was ready to push."

She also says that she was 'completely out of it', which could explain how she managed to drop off.

Worried doctors thought she may have to undergo an emergency caesarean, because she was 'too relaxed' to push. It gets even more bizarre as John, Alice's wife, started telling his other half to push and, even though she was asleep, she did.

With just 10 minutes to go until Phillip popped out, Alice woke up, gave birth, and then went back to sleep for a couple of hours.

She said: "I remember a nurse trying to put Philip in my arms, but I was going to sleep again, only to wake up two hours later to properly meet my son.

"Though I'm pleased I missed the pain of labour, I do wish I had been more present for my first baby's birth.

"Now when he's older and asks me, I'll have to tell him I nodded off."

I think we have all learned something today.
