LAD Discovers Cheapest Way To Get The iPhone X Plus A 'Free Trip' To New York

The prices in Europe and America differ, so you should probably take advantage of that.

The news of the latest iPhones thrilled us all this week. From full-length screen, to facial recognition and wireless charging - it's a bit of a step up from the iPhone 7.

One thing that didn't exactly thrill us was the pricing. The iPhone X will start at $999 (and similarly £999 in Britain), which is the equivalent of €860 for a 64GB model.

However, one travel and technology expert has found a way from getting to his Amsterdam home to New York, plus two nights' accommodation, to buy the iPhone for cheaper than buying it in Europe.

Juan Buis tweeted some of his basic maths to his followers in a post that has since gone viral.

The Dutchman captioned his tweet: "Buying iPhone X in Europe? Why not add a free weekend trip to NYC?"

Juan also provided flight details and AirBnB accommodation options to prove how cheap it could be.

He told LADbible that he came up with the thought after watching the launch on Tuesday.

Juan said: "I used to work in tech reporting so I religiously watch the launches. Normally we host a party with a couple of friends to watch it.

"On the way back I came up with the idea that if you detract the cost, then you can probably get a super low cost fair to New York. I enjoy writing about travel and technology and these come together."

Juan currently has an iPhone 7 and said that the cost of the latest iPhones put him off.

"I have an iPhone 7 which works perfectly fine," he added. "I think the new one is kind of expensive. I think if I sell my current phone (256GB) I would lose a lot of storage space, but not save any money - I like the new tech stuff on it though."

WOWair, the company he initially saw advertising the cheap flights, has even offered to fly him out to New York after his tweet directed 3.7 million impressions in the business' direction.

Juan explained to LADbible: "WOWair reached out to me, and they are flying me out to New York - I don't even think they are asking for anything in return.

"I have to come up with the dates, I can pick any date, maybe I will do it for the iPhone launch and try to do it exactly as I would in the tweet."

Svana Fridriksdottir, VP of Communications at Wowair, told LADbible: "We just saw the tweet from this guy like everyone else and thought it was fantastic. It is great that people are noticing our low fares over the Atlantic.

"After we saw the tweet we decided to contact him and offered him a free flight to NY return to get his new phone."

Juan later admitted that he forgot food costs in the total, which would make the trip more expensive, but, for the sake of a couple of quid, you could get a weekend in New York out of it.

So, from a free flight to a new free iPhone X?

"It's a cool device," Juan said. "Apple is really taking things that companies have already done and then perfecting it. For example: wireless charging, they are going to launch it on a big scale; the edge-to-edge screen, Samsung did it, and now Apple are perfecting the technology. People are going to get accustomed to it."

He joked: "I'm trying to get Apple involved in the tweet. If they want to DM on Twitter, I'm completely fine with getting a new iPhone."
