Man Gets Locked Inside Gym After Employees 'Close Doors And Go Home'

He ended up having to call the police, who were thankfully able to help him out of his sweaty prison

A man in Utah managed to get himself locked inside a gym - ironically called 24 Hour Fitness - after employees supposedly 'closed the doors and went home'.

Dan Hill, from Sandy, had been swimming laps at the weekend when he suddenly realised he was alone. Not just in the pool, but in the whole building.

Unsure what to do, and fearing that he might trigger an alarm by opening any doors and be mistaken for an intruder, Hill decided to call the police.

Hill told KTVX:"I called dispatch and the guy pauses for like 10 seconds and says, 'You're where?'."

Hill told 'the guy': "I'm in 24 Hour Fitness, and there's an alarm system here and I don't want to get busted for breaking and entering."

At the time, Hill also posted a series of photos to Facebook (because what else would you do if you were stranded inside a gym?), writing: "I am literally locked inside 24 hour fitness right now.

"They closed the doors and went home while I was swimming my laps in the pool. Doesn't the name suggests that they stay open 24 hours? Walking around trying to figure out how to get out. I called Sandy dispatch. They told me they'd call me back.

"I called my wife, she said find a comfortable place to sleep. LOL."

One selfie taken in front of a swimmer-free pool shows Dan smiling away, looking pretty pleased with himself, while in another he's yelling to nobody over by the machines.

The post soon went viral, racking up 10,000 shares and 25,000 reactions, with one person joking: "At least you don't have anyone to stare at you while you workout."

Another added: "They should give you a free membership now!"

Others also shared similar experiences that had happened to them, including one worker who found herself locked in the store of one of America's largest retail brands.

Someone else recalled: "Haha same thing happened to me at a movie theatre back in 99. I fell asleep on the last showing of a movie, they didn't check the theatre and when I woke up I was locked in. Was stuck in there till I triggered the alarm and the GM and Police came."

Thankfully, Hill wasn't trapped inside for too long, and posted an update at 12.56am to say he'd been let out with the help of three friendly police officers, who he took a snap with.

"Free at last! Free at last! Thanks to three nice cops I am free at last."

Despite his surreal evening, Hill has no hard feelings towards his gym, having since written on Facebook: "I still love my 24 (even if it is now my 20)."
