Comfort is one of the ultimate goals when designing a car. While loads of us would like chairs that allowed us to sit better for those longer trips, safety always comes first.

But one van driver has been caught with something that is definitely not road worthy.

The driver in Victoria had self-installed two leather La-Z-Boy recliners in the place of normal seats and police were not happy when they made the discovery.

The driver was pulled over for an unrelated issue and it was only when officers looked into the back that they saw the very comfy looking chairs.

To make matters worse, a six-year-old boy was seen sitting in one of the recliners.

Police have released a statement, saying: "Westgate Highway Patrol Officers patrolling in Point Cook received a hit on their ANPR in the patrol vehicle alerting them to an unregistered vehicle near by. A routine event and not really Eyewatch worthy, but it was what they found next that was concerning.

"They stopped a van on Sanctuary Lakes Bvd and located a six year old child in the rear, sitting on these lazy boy recliners that had been bought and installed in the rear of the van.

"Seats held in by an alloy block that fastened to the floor load rail system for those interested in the technicalities, but not a Vic Roads standard of registration and not approved for use on the roads, especially carrying around your most precious cargo."

The driver was hit with three infringements, which included operating an unregistered vehicle, having an unrestrained passenger and breaching the standards of registration.

Police added that the cost of installing the recliners could have covered the rego - but alas, here we are.
