Comedian Kathy Burke has labelled The Jeremy Kyle Show as 'vile' and said that she hopes 'it's the end' of the ITV programme, which was taken off the air following the death of a guest that occurred shortly after filming.

The show was suspended indefinitely following the death, and as the news broke, 54-year-old Burke responded via Twitter with: "Hope it's the end of that vile, Kyle show."

The responses flooded in, many of which mirrored her own. One person wrote: "Absolutely despise that show. Parading people on national TV so they can be laughed at and humiliated."

Another added: "The ritual public humiliation and demonisation of the vulnerable for the viewing pleasure of the stupid."

A third commented: "Using vulnerable people like that was appalling. I'm sure a lot of the time they were told what to say."

Filming has been suspended and the show taken off air following the tragic news.

Earlier today a statement from ITV confirmed that the guest tragically passed away a week after filming the episode and said its 'thoughts are with their family and friends'.

The statement read: "Everyone at ITV and The Jeremy Kyle Show is shocked and saddened at the news of the death of a participant in the show a week after the recording of the episode they featured in and our thoughts are with their family and friends.

"ITV will not screen the episode in which they featured.

"Given the seriousness of this event, ITV has also decided to suspend both filming and broadcasting of The Jeremy Kyle Show with immediate effect in order to give it time to conduct a review of this episode of the show."

This morning's show was set to air at 9.30am but was replaced by an episode of Dickinson's Real Deal.

Viewers were confused by the late change but after discovering the reason behind it, some shared their condolences with the relatives of the deceased.

One person said: "I was wondering why The Jeremy Kyle Show wasn't on this morning (not that I'd watch it if it was) and just found out a guest died shortly after today's episode was produced. My deepest sympathy to family and friends."
