Keanu Reeves Isn’t Ruling Out A Fourth Matrix Movie

We've been expecting you... Mr. Anderson.

I'll be the first to admit, I absolutely hate when film studios think it's a good idea to revive franchises or slap on a sequel...

Charlie's Angels 2, Zoolander 2 and Indiana Jones: Kingdom of the Crystal Skull spring to mind.

And don't get me started on the fact that we're up to the THIRD remake of Spiderman since 2002 with THREE different actors and concepts.

Side note, Spiderman 3 is probably one of the worst movies ever made.

But the first Matrix movie is considered one of the best sci-fi movies of all time.

The following two movies weren't as good (third one especially) but were stunning in its special effects and visual themes. The Matrix Reloaded was the highest-grossing R-rated film for over a decade, until 2016's Deadpool.

So anyone invested in the series might be keen to hear what lead actor Keanu Reeves has to say about the future.

While promoting action thriller John Wick: Chapter 2, Keanu told Yahoo he'd be involved in a fourth Matrix on one condition:

"The Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we'd see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that'd be weird, but why not? People die, stories don't, people in stories don't."

The Wachowski sisters, Lana and Lilly, wrote and directed the Matrix series, leading to a bunch of award nominations.

They've since been involved in other movies including V for Vendetta, Cloud Atlas and the incredible Netflix series Sense8.

There were mixed feelings about the prospect on social media:

Adding fuel to the fire of Matrix 4 rumours - the lead actors met up ahead of John Wick: Chapter 2's release.

The original Matrix movie was released in 1999 and was a brilliant look into simulated reality, at a time where the Internet and computers were becoming more and more an essential part of daily life.

The Matrix Revolutions ends with the death of Keanu's character Neo but the war against the machines is over.

But the final scene leaves it open for Neo to make a comeback.

Sati asks The Oracle: "Will we ever see him again?" to which she replies, "I suspect so. Someday."

Someday might now be a possibility.
