It's just been confirmed that yesterday was Australia's hottest day on record with the average maximum temperature across the country being 40.9C degrees.
So there's no denying that we are collectively sweltering at the moment.

A dip in the pool or at the beach certainly does the trick, or maybe sitting in front of an air conditioning unit; what about a nice cold beer or ice cream?
But you'd have to go out and buy that ice cream yourself, don't you? Well, Aldi Australia is here to help you through summer by selling a cheap machine that turns your favourite fruit into a goddamn ice cream.
You feed whatever you want into the $29.99 machine and, like a juicer, it will spew out all the delicious goodness but in a frozen form, ready for you to gently lick at a glacial pace.
The machine comes with two ice block moulds or, if you follow the advert, you can just dump it all into a bowl and spoon it out until your heart's content.
We wonder if you could add in a cheeky bit of alcohol to the mix and make yourself some boozy, fruity alcopops.

It's being flogged for the next few days under Aldi's Special Buys, which will last until this Saturday.
Naturally, Aldi is only going to have a limited stock and it has issued a warning about the rush.
"Despite our careful planning, we apologise if selected items may sell out on the first day due to unexpected high demand. In the event of unexpected high demand, ALDI Stores reserves the right to limit purchases to reasonable quantities," the store says.
So you better get in quick.
