BrewDog Is Encouraging Workers To Reclaim Lunch By Offering Free Pints

The folks at craft beer giant BrewDog have announced they want people to reclaim lunchtime by offering two free pints for everyone on their midday break.

That's great if you work in an office - say, as a writer - but probably not an offer for doctors or taxi drivers.

Anyway, in an attempt to counteract the 'always on' working culture that is pervasive these days, BrewDog wants to give everyone two pints - one for you, one for a colleague - in order to give you some midday downtime.

This is because research shows that 77 percent of office workers in the UK spend their entire lunch hour at their desk.

Fifty-seven percent of us would welcome the chance to go for a swift jar at lunch to help encourage 'switching off' and only 11 percent of people are encouraged to socialise with workmates outside of scheduled work hours.

That's why BrewDog has launched its 'Out of Office' campaign. Basically, to give us a chance to get a genuine break from work during the day, instead of dining at a desk.

So, there's two pints of beer for you - they've got non-alcoholic beer, too, if that's your thing - between 12pm and 2pm from Monday to Friday.

You can redeem the offer at any one of BrewDog's 52 UK bars.

They had the idea after finding out that half of office workers reckon that a pint at lunch is a key part of so-called 'British culture'.

However, more than that, 66 percent - two thirds - of people reckon that it's frowned upon by bosses, and isn't a common occurrence anymore.

They've teamed up with Susanna Newsonen, the author of Happiness is Here for the campaign, which runs from 25 November to 29 November.

She said: "Your brain needs regular breathers throughout your day. Getting totally offline and away from your desk at lunch is vital in helping you to recharge your batteries and better deal with stress.

"People taking part in BrewDog Out of Office will find they come back into the office feeling happier and more productive. It's also a great way to better connect with your colleagues and build more positive relationships with them."

To take them up on their officer, just go to BrewDogOOO.com and input your email address. You'll be sent a QR code that you'll have to show to get your drinks.

BrewDog's co-founder James Watt said: "Leaving your desk over lunch has become frowned upon in many workplaces - most people make do with shovelling down a sad sandwich at their desk while they crack on with work.

"That's not a break, and it's certainly not good for productivity or our mental and physical health.

"BrewDog is making a stand and putting our money where our mouth is, buying pints for the people to help them get away from their desks for a true break at lunch.

"It's time to make a change. BrewDog Out of Office encourages people to take back that hour that is rightfully theirs. Our aim to be inclusive, so we are offering the choice of alcohol-free Punk AF or Nanny State as well as the classic Punk IPA or Lost Lager.

"This initiative isn't about encouraging people to be unprofessional, it's about reclaiming lunchtime for the people."
