Despite the fact the UK's lockdown continues on, and looks set to carry on for a good while longer, there are still signs that normality will one day return.

Specifically, in this case, Burger King reopening some of their restaurants on a delivery only basis.

Yes, that's right, as of today you can have a Burger King meal delivered right to your door, provided you live near to one of the outlets offering this service.

On top of that, the fast food giant has agreed to donate 1,000 meals each week to the good folks who are keeping the NHS afloat at this crucial time.

This comes days after KFC announced they'd be doing a similar thing, opening up 11 restaurants and also pledging free meals for NHS workers.

However, as it stands there are only going to be four Burger King restaurants opening up. So, if you live near the Bath Road or Eastgate branches in Bristol, or in Swindon or Coventry, there's a chance you can be one of the first to get a BK delivered.

For everyone else, the wait goes on. Fear not, though, because there are plans to open up more as the situation progresses.

Obviously, the company has had to have a long think about whether to do this. They're keen to add that safety of staff and customers is paramount.

In the reopened restaurants, staff will wear personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks and gloves, the premises will be stringently cleaned, and food will be delivered via contactless delivery.

That means that you'll be able to get the food on Deliveroo or Just Eat, then pay online.

Burger King has also committed to training all staff on the government's social distancing measures. That means the kitchen the food is cooked in will remain hygienic and safe.

While the full menu won't be available, many of the classics are up for grabs. If you want a Whopper, a Bacon Double Cheeseburger, or a Chicken Royale, then you're in luck.

As with everywhere else, you can peruse the full selection of what is available online when ordering.

Katie Evans, Marketing Director at Burger King UK, said: "We hope that re-opening these restaurants for delivery services goes some way to lifting our customers' spirits in these difficult times.

"We are committed to providing 1,000 meals a week to NHS staff based in the vicinity of these restaurants as we want to demonstrate how appreciative everyone at Burger King UK is of their efforts in these unprecedented times."
