Infamous jail HMP Dartmoor is offering inmates the Christmas dinner options of roast turkey and stuffing, pork and apple sauce, salmon and broccoli parcels and chicken tandoori with pitta bread.

If that wasn't good enough, sides include roast potatoes or egg fried rice, Brussels sprouts and baton carrots with gravy. And before you ask, yep, there are options for vegans, don't worry yourselves.

HMP Dartmoor has been home to the notoriously violent Kray twins, Frank 'Mad Axeman' Mitchell and John George Haigh - better known as the acid bath murderer.

But, back to the food - the prison has revealed its Christmas menu but, according to the Mirror, the Government stresses the food comes at 'no extra cost to the taxpayer'.

There's even dessert on offer in the shape of Christmas pudding and vanilla sauce or a cheese and biscuit pack - which feels pretty disappointing given the varied main course options.

But between meals, various cheeses, puddings and mince pies will be offered out to the 600 convicts.

The Ministry of Justice say meals in prisons over Christmas and New Year are covered with left over money from the budgets.

A Government statement read: "The daily allowance for a prisoner is £2.02 per day. With increased responsibilities to Governors since April 2017, and devolved budgets to prisons, what is actually spent on food per prisoner per day, and the breakdown per meals, is ultimately a decision for each Governor and their catering team."

And if this information piques your interest, you'll also be delighted to read about what you can buy behind bars and how much it'll set you back.

A Freedom of Information request sent to Her Majesty's Prison Service found that you can get a tin of beans and sausages for 89p ($1.16) if you're not too fussy about the brand. A 'pork luncheon meat tin' will cost you £1.69 ($2.20), and if you want to push out the boat out you can grab some kippers in sunflower oil for £2.25 ($2.93).

There are also options for the more sophisticated palate - spinach leaf tea will set you back 99p ($1.29) and bit of okra or some cous cous for a quid.

Inmates also have the chance to play a cheeky game of the Lovable Dogs edition of Top Trumps, which is available for £3.19 ($4.16).
