A couple were horrified when they discovered what they thought was a human tooth when they sat down to a takeaway from their local Chinese restaurant.

Dave Burrows, 38, sat down to enjoy a £6.30 pork curry with girlfriend Stephanie McDonough when he came across the strange item.

The pair rang up the Chinese takeaway to complain about what they had found, but claimed bosses insisted the 'tooth' was actually animal gristle or even onion.

Burrows had ordered the meal from Newtown Cantonese Takeaway in Worcester, Worcestershire - which has a 4.7 rating on Google reviews - last Friday.

After they supposedly spoke to staff with no resolution, McDonough, 29, uploaded a picture of the curry to Facebook.

In her post, which has now been shared more than 5,000 times, the mum-of-one wrote: "DO NOT USE NEWTOWN CHINESE WORCESTER!!!

"Trying to say it's just gristle from the pork then said it could be from the onion, UHM IT'S A F***ING TOOTH.

McDonagh also claimed in the post that she was yet to receive an apology, adding: "I feel so sick, it's vile."

The couple, from Warndon, said they had the cost of the curry reimbursed, but not the total of their £17.70 bill.

McDonough said: "We thought it was a bone at first, but it's definitely a tooth.

"We both checked it wasn't any of ours.

"I phoned the restaurant later that night and the manager really tried to convince me it was gristle in the pork.

"She was having none of it. She was trying to come up with different things that it could have been. It was a tooth.

"It's more a concern of how it got there.

"Was it spat in there or fell? I'm 90 percent sure it's a human tooth. It could have come from their food suppliers or wherever."

The couple reported the find to the Food Standards Agency, and have frozen the curry and tooth for analysis.

According to the Worcester News, a city council spokesman said Worcestershire Regulatory Services inspectors are now investigating the incident and will be visiting Newtown Cantonese Takeaway imminently.

The takeaway did not wish to comment until after inspectors have visited the premises.
