The importance of washing your hands amid this coronavirus pandemic cannot be reiterated enough.

However, you simply can't know for sure that everyone is taking this advice as seriously as they should, and as such it is wise to minimise physical contact where possible.

To put customers' minds at rest, Domino's is introducing a 'contact free delivery' service as of next week. The service is free of charge and is designed to accommodate those of us who are keen to keep physical contact to an absolute minimum.

Chief executive officer, David Wild, said: "For customers who want to feel even safer when ordering, from next week we will launch Contact Free Delivery. This service comes at no additional charge and is in response to some customers wishing to limit physical contact during the current COVID-19 outbreak. We're pleased to be able to offer this across every Domino's store in the UK and Ireland.

"By introducing Contact Free Delivery, we believe that we will give our customers peace of mind when ordering a Domino's, while also protecting our delivery drivers."

So, how exactly does it work?

David explained: "You can select a Contact Free Delivery at the checkout on our app or website when placing your order. Your driver will call you when they arrive to agree where you want your food left. Once the order has been placed in the agreed location, the driver will stay at least two meters away while you collect your order.

"To ensure the service is truly contact free, all Contact Free Delivery orders must be pre-paid online or over the phone."

Basically then, they're gonna ring you and say, 'Where do you want it?'. They'll then pop it on top of your rabbit hutch as told and retreat to their car/moped - stationed at least two metres away - from which they will peer on and ensure you collect it before a fox does. Dystopian times people.

Of course, the pizza will be contacted on numerous occasions prior to collection, but David assures us that the takeaway chain abides by 'very high hygiene standards' throughout the cooking process.

He said: "Domino's understands the trust you place in us to deliver safe, freshly prepared pizza and takes this responsibility incredibly seriously.

"I wanted to reassure you that the safety and wellbeing of customers and colleagues is always our top priority. Domino's already has very high hygiene standards and strict food handling procedures.

"In light of the current situation we're carefully following the advice from health authorities. We've implemented a number of additional precautions such as increased hand washing and sanitisation.

"Everyone at Domino's is working tirelessly to ensure we continue to provide you with the level of service and quality you'd expect from us during these challenging times."
