The disgraced Papa John's founder has claims to have eaten 800 pizzas over the past 18 months in a bid to show just how far the business has fallen since he left.

John Schnatter, the former CEO of the fast-food giant, was kicked out of the company a few years ago after he was recorded using a racist term.

Speaking to Bloomberg, the 61-year-old discussed the fall-out from his departure and the bitter war of words he is involved in with CEO Rob Lynch, executives at his former firm, and the 'progressive elite left' who are 'scared of him'.

And he says that the quality of the food at Papa John's has really suffered since the company came under new management.

He told the publication: "Some were burnt. Some were undercooked."

Schnatter went on to say that the company only survived because of the surge in food delivery during the pandemic, and that it's a total mess.

Adding: "It kind of makes me laugh at Rob Lynch.

"This guy is delusional. He has no idea how we built this company and the fundamentals. But he thinks it's him. He really thinks that he's done something magical."

This isn't the first time that the founder has taken on a mammoth pizza-eating challenge.

Back in 2019, he told the media that he had eaten 40 pizzas in 30 days.

He told WDRB News: "I've had over 40 pizzas in the last 30 days and it's not the same pizza, it's not the same product, it doesn't taste as good.

"The way they make it, they way they put the pizza together is just not fundamentally sound to what makes a Papa John's pizza."

And last year, he went a few better, pledging to eat 50 pizzas in 30 days.

In a video posted to his Instagram account, Schnatter said: "Yo! Papa here, feeding the team. New Year's resolution for 2020? Fifty pizzas, 30 days. Fifty pizzas, 30 days."

Adding: "Happy New Year's!"

Over on the grid, he also posted a photo and explained he'd be trying to beat his previous record of 40 pizzas in 30 days.

"My resolution for 2020 is to beat my record of 40 pizzas in 30 days,"⁣Schnatter said.

"What resolutions do you guys have for 2020?"

Schnatter stepped down as the CEO of Papa John's in January 2018, following comments he made the previous year criticising National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, claiming he wasn't doing anything about national anthem protests from football players.

He then also resigned as a chairman of the board of directors in July 2018, amid a scandal surrounding his use of a racial slur when he alleged KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders had used the term and it had not affected his popularity.
