Gordon Ramsay Shares Best Way To Use Christmas Leftovers

Gordon Ramsay Shares Best Way To Use Christmas Leftovers

Put down the turkey sandwich - there is a better way

As many of you chew your way through your fifth turkey sandwich of the season, you're probably wondering why our fair nation is so obsessed with stuffing leftovers into two slices of bread. Sure, a Boxing Day butty is alright, but certainly not good enough to return to several days on the trot.

Instead, Gordon Ramsay has shared an alternative use for your leftover meat, and thankfully this one involves delicious puff pastry rather than yet another loaf of Warburtons.

That's right, Gord reckons you're better off turning what's left of the meat from all those roast lunches and buffets into a turkey and ham pie.

It's not quite as straightforward as slapping a slice of turkey in between bread, but it's easy enough that you'll be alright whipping one up even after a few sherries.

All you'll need are leeks, chestnuts mushrooms, the leftover turkey and ham and a white sauce made from butter, flour, chicken or vegetable stock, crème fraiche and parsley.

Top all that off with a nicely-crimped puff pastry lid (and a little egg wash for colour), and you've got yourself a Gordon Ramsay turkey and ham pie!

A few tips on Gordon Ramsay's website explain: "To encourage the pastry to rise as much as possible, 'knock up' the edges of the pastry by pressing horizontal lines into the pastry rim all the way around the rim - these groves will help the pastry lift in the oven.

"Cooking from chilled will also help, as the pastry can firm up before cooking, just ensure the filling is fully heated through before serving."

Ramsay says you can also make this pie with leftover roast chicken, or substitute chopped bacon for the leftover ham.

Of course, while the dish itself looked pretty tasty when the chef posted a video of it being made on Twitter, it didn't take long for his followers to give him the harsh feedback he often serves up.

One even referred people to Jamie Oliver's recipe, which they said was 'far better':

While another tweeted: "Stick to Wellington. That looks like the pile my dog just puked up."

A third joked: "Where the f**k is the f**king lamb sauce??"

Personally, I'm always going to go for my mum's Turkey a la King over anything else, but if you reckon Gordon's suggestion looks like a bit of you, you can get the full recipe for his turkey and ham pie here.
