Greggs Set To Roll Out Nationwide Delivery Service

It comes following successful trials last year

Wonderful news everybody: it looks as though Greggs is set to roll out a nationwide delivery service. What a time to be alive.

The beloved pasty purveyors have previously trialled delivery services with Deliveroo and Just Eat, and it seems as though the trials were a hit (obviously). Now Greggs is looking to introduce a delivery option throughout the country.

This is the... erm... interesting image Greggs used to announce trial delivery services last year.

Greggs chief executive Roger Whiteside revealed the good news in an interview with City AM, saying: "What we have been doing for more than a year is trialling in different places and different partners and we have learned enough to decide that we are interested in rolling out across the country."

As yet, Greggs hasn't revealed which cities its delivery service will be available in and they have not confirmed when it will launch either - but Whiteside told the news outlet Greggs is 'very close' to sharing its plans to expand its delivery presence in the UK. Exciting, eh?

Greggs trialled delivery services in seven cities last year, using Deliveroo and Just Eat, and it appeared to be a popular choice with customers.

The news comes as Greggs revealed it was splitting a whopping £7 million ($9m) of its profits between its staff members after having a successful 2019.

The bakery chain announced its nice little January bonus would mean the 19,000 employees who have been working there since before 31 March 2019 will get about £300 ($390) each, and the other 6,000 staff getting £75 ($98) for each quarter they have worked there.

Greggs said the one-off payment would act as a thank you to staff members for their 'crucial contribution to the company's success' following a 13 percent jump in sales. That's a lot of steak bakes and vegan sausage rolls.

Whiteside said: "I am delighted to announce that we will also be making a special additional payment to all of our colleagues across the business who have worked so hard to deliver this success in what has been a phenomenal year.

"Looking to the year ahead, we face strong sales comparatives and cost inflation headwinds present a challenge.

"However, with strong momentum in the business we see further growth opportunities across a number of channels as we invest in new ways to make Greggs more accessible and convenient for customers."
