For many people, putting pineapple on a pizza - or on any savoury meal, for that matter - is plain wrong and deserves nothing more than scorn and mockery.
But now one American company's pastry dish - described as the 'Hawaiian pizza' of pasties - has been judged to be one of the best pasties in the world.
The creation by Virginia's Pure Pasty Company won the 'Open Savoury Company' category of the seventh annual World Pasty Championships. The event was held at the Eden Project in Cornwall - a county which of course knows a few things about pasties.

This is the first time a US company has won the prestigious pasty accolade, which is usually dominated by traditional British heavyweights. That's no mean feat.
According to the Telegraph, the Pure Pasty Company's creation pairs barbecue pulled chicken with sweet potato, courgette, red pepper, sweetcorn and pineapple, aiming to provide the ultimate combo of sweet and spice.
Ike Burgess, founder of the Pure Pasty Company, said: "We have always been focused on fusion. We love to combine the traditional Cornish pasty with American dishes to come up with new ones.

"The chicken recipe is a progression on some barbecue pork we made and we wanted it to be different from the pork. We were aiming for something spicy with the barbeque sauce and sweet, but not too sweet.
"We wanted an element of fruit flavour, a bit like Hawaiian pizza. The pineapple is an important element of our chicken pasty, definitely."
According to Burgess the pasty is very bright inside, combining the usual deep brown of a traditional Cornish pasty with reds, yellows and the orange sweet potato. You wouldn't think that it would appeal to a British palate, but apparently it did.

In second place behind the rainbow coloured creation was another unusual entry - a vegan Thai yellow curry pasty, created by Warrens Bakery from Cornwall. Guess the judges were feeling fruity this year.
Eden Project spokesman David Rowe said: "There was a great spirit today at our seventh World Pasty Championships. The pasty bakers made heroic efforts to be here despite everything the weather could throw at them this week."
"Huge thanks to our friends from the Cornish Pasty Association for helping us deliver the event as a fitting end of the first-ever Cornish Pasty Week."

The pineapple pasty may have convinced the judges, but we suspect for many the jury is still out.
