McDonald's Staff Use Brooms To Chase Rat Out Of Restaurant

The restaurant say that the rat made a "well-timed run" for the doors.

Video footage has emerged that shows staff chasing a large rat out of a McDonald's restaurant in Croydon.

The video was shared on social media and has since been viewed more than 177,000 times. In the video, McDonald's staff use mops and brooms to chase the huge rodent out of the shop.

In fairness, it's a pretty well accepted fact that you're never too far away from a few rats in the Greater London area. It just seems as if the smell of all those burgers enticed this one to make a dash for them.

The footage was shot on Friday night in the Croydon branch of the world's largest fast food chain, on Church Street.

To be fair to the staff on shift at the time, there was no jumping on tables or screaming about it, they just got stuck in with their brooms, mops, and anything they had to hand in order to chase the rat out.

In fact, some of them have thrown their hat into the ring for the next Winter Olympic Curling team.

OK, that's not true, but you get the idea.

A spokesperson for the chain told the Croydon Advertiser that the staff eventually managed to get rid of the problem and they then enlisted the services of a pest control company to check that the rat didn't have any of his pals hanging around in the restaurant as well.

The spokesperson said: "Hygiene and cleanliness is of utmost importance to us."

"A rodent made a well-timed run through the front door, but our staff reacted quickly to make sure the visit was a very brief one and ushered it out of the restaurant, unharmed.

"We immediately asked pest control experts to carry out a check of the restaurant, with further checks [also taking place] in recent days.

"All of these checks have confirmed no evidence of pest activity and we are confident that this is an isolated incident."

Sounds plausible enough, however, there has been an incident recently involving McDonald's in the recent past that can't be put down to the automatic doors.

One horrified customer in Glinton, Cambridgeshire, discovered a huge bug inside his Chicken Legend.

I mean, that's some really terrifying stuff. At the time, 15-year-old Connor Ribbons thought that he'd got a bit of bone in his chicken - nothing too bad to worry about - but then peeled back the bun to find that it was in fact some sort of gigantic insect.

Worst nightmare, right?

At the time, Connor's mum, Anita, complained but the duty manager failed to take any action. It was only once the press got hold of the story that they offered a £50 voucher.

A McDonald's spokesperson said: "We are sorry to hear about Ms Ribbons and Connor's experience.

"Food quality and safety are of the utmost importance to us and we place great emphasis on quality control, following rigorous standards in order to avoid any imperfections.

"Ms Ribbons spoke to our restaurant team at the time and the food was immediately replaced.

"We subsequently attempted to make contact with Ms Ribbons a number of times and when we spoke with her advised her of the Customer Services process."
