A Cafe Has Created The 'Most Northern Sandwich Ever'

A Cafe Has Created The 'Most Northern Sandwich Ever'

It's a thing of beauty

It seems it's been a good few weeks for peak northern food.

We've already seen the release of the Yorkshire pudding pizza - combining the greatest food to come out of God's Own County with the food that is, objectively, the greatest - and now the dark side of the Pennines has offered its own culinary response.

The creation is being described as the 'most Manchester sandwich ever' and it looks like every cardiologists worst nightmare.

The 'Pie Face' is the weekly special of The New Cake and Sandwich Shop, based in Hyde.

It is the creation of the cafe's co-owner Samantha Mitchell and it consists of a homemade steak pie, on a bed of chunky chips, topped with mushy peas.

She told the MEN: "Since last year myself and my husband Garry Mitchell decided to do a weekly and an alternative (sometimes weird) sandwich calling it 'sandwich of the week'.

"I do prefer the bizarre sandwiches and I'd heard of the Wigan kebab but decided to give it a twist a bit more so I decided with the chips and mushy peas.

"Customers reactions have been fantastic. Obviously it's not everyone's choice... it's great to know we're doing something right ."

If you're thinking something so beautiful has to be pricey then you'd be wrong, it costs a meagre £3 quid. Which, if you're willing to count the gravy as a drink, makes it the stodgiest meal deal option going.

As you can imagine, pie-eaters have already been weighing-in on social media:

If you happen to be around Manchester any time soon, then you can head to the The New Cake and Sandwich Shop to try it out.
