McDonald's is launching its very first plant-based patty - the McPlant - which promises to be every bit as delicious as its meaty options.
McDonald's has worked with Beyond Meat to create the 'juicy plant-based patty' which is 'certified vegan'.
The McPlant features a pea protein plant-based patty served with vegan sandwich sauce, ketchup, mustard, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and vegan cheese in a sesame seed bun.
It is cooked separately from McDonald's other menu items and staff will be using dedicated utensils.
Although McDonald's has previously offered vegan-friendly options on its menu, this is the first time the fast-food chain has launched its own specially created burger.
McDonald's says it has spent three years perfecting its vegan burger.
It added that 'every element of the McPlant was designed with taste and quality top-of-mind'.
McDonald's said: "McDonald's UK&I has spent three years on research and development to bring a delicious plant-based offering to British and Irish customers, and every element of the McPlant was designed with taste and quality top-of-mind - from the plant-based patty co-developed with Beyond Meat, to innovative vegan cheese based on pea protein that tastes just like McDonald's iconic cheese slices, and a new vegan sauce."
The McPlant lands in 10 restaurants on 29 September before being rolled out to more than 250 from 13 October and nationwide from next year.
Michelle Graham-Clare, Chief Marketing Officer, McDonald's UK and Ireland said: "We're so pleased to be finally launching McPlant in the UK and Ireland.
"As with every McDonald's offering, we take our time to ensure it meets the highest standards and is something that all our customers will enjoy.
"We are always looking for different ways to innovate and meet our customers' needs, and with McPlant we have a delicious plant-based burger that will appeal to everyone.
"Whether you're vegan or just fancy a plant-based patty, we're confident you will enjoy the McPlant."
