McDonald's has been testing a plant-based burger after trialling one in a number of Canadian restaurants.

The new addition to the popular fast food chain's menu is called the McPlant and it will be served on a 'warm, sesame seed bun with all the classic toppings'.

In a blog post, the company said: "Last year, with those customers in mind, we tested our first plant-based burger in select restaurants in Canada.

"Based on what we learned and an encouraging response, we're excited to give you a sneak preview of the McPlant - a delicious plant-based burger crafted for McDonald's, by McDonald's, and with the kind of craveable McDonald's flavour our customers love.

"In fact, we think our culinary team nailed it. There are other plant-based burgers out there, but the McPlant delivers our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich.

"It's made with a juicy, plant-based patty and served on a warm, sesame seed bun with all the classic toppings.

"Markets can adopt the McPlant when they're ready and we expect some to test the burger next year."

There's no mention of it coming to the UK but LADbible has reached out to McDonald's for comment.

For now though, McDonald's is sticking with what it knows best - especially with this year's Christmas menu, which includes a Double Big Mac and a Celebrations McFlurry.

The new burger is an absolute beast, with four patties instead of two, as well as lettuce, onions, cheese and that famous Big Mac sauce.

Other newbies on the menu, which will be available from Wednesday 18 November, will include a Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich (which is £4.39 on its own, or £5.69 for a meal) and a salted caramel latte.

The Celebrations McFlurry comes in both the full size version (£1.39) or the mini (99p).

The fast food chain will also be offering Cheese Melt Dippers for £1.79 or a Cheese Melt Dipper Sharebox for £4.79.

Although the double Big Mac was originally launched in America this year, it's the first time the UK has had it.

It's the biggest burger Maccies has ever sold, with the triple cheeseburger coming in second.

But while you're waiting for this new menu to be released, you can still get your fix - at a discounted price.

That's because McDonald's has launched a 30 percent off sale that applies to its entire main menu, with the discount available to anyone with the MyMcDonald's app.
