Nando's is giving customers a whopping 50 percent off their bill if you go for a meal with you nan - or granddad, or anyone aged 65 or over.

The NanGo's Free campaign kicks off on Monday 7 June and runs until Wednesday 9 June and hopes to help the younger generations reconnect with their elderly relatives or friends as lockdown restrictions ease.

Nando's said: "After a year of being apart, it's finally time to be reunited with your favourite people again.

"We know your Nan's probably top of the list, which is why we're here to help.

"From the 7th-9th June, when you bring along your special person over the age of 65, we'll give you 50 percent off your total bill. There's no better time to take the OAP (Official Appreciator of PERi-PERi) in your life for their first ever Nando's!"

To get your unique code to claim the deal, you'll need to sign up - which you can do here - and your nan - or other OAP - will need to have valid ID ready to show staff at the restaurant.

The offer is worth considering even if you or your gran happens to be veggie - as last year Nando's launched its first plant-based burger.

Named 'The Great Imitator', the product is made from pea protein and is available on a burger or pitta.

It's served as four strips that are grilled to order. Nando's fans are still able to turn up the heat, by choosing their desired level of spice on the PERi-ometer, as they would with the meat options.

While the burger itself is vegan, Nando's doesn't label it as such because it is prepared on the same grills as the chicken so they can't guarantee there won't be cross contamination.

The website does however state: "We do take rigorous steps to segregate our non-meat products from our meat products.

"We choose a specific part of the grill for our non-meat products and we use separate utensils for them too."

As all the ingredients are completely animal-free - right down to the mayo - the Great Imitator is a potential choice for vegans and vegetarians (if you're alright with the cooking method), flexitarians and meat-reducers.
