Nando's has introduced a brand-new Extra Extra Hot sauce, ideal for those of you who can't enjoy your chicken unless your eyes are watering and your mouth is on fire.

The new flavour, named Vusa, will be added to the very top of Nando's PERI-ometer and is available from today (26 January).

The new spicy sauce is a combination of African Bird's Eye Chilli, lemon, garlic, cider vinegar and bell pepper puree.

According to Chilli Pepper Madness, African Bird's Eye chilis hit a taste bud destroying 175,000 Scoville Heat Units.

Nando's said: "The brand new heat level, which will have hot-heads rejoicing and Lemon & Herb devotees quaking in their boots, will take the top spot on Nando's Scoville scale equivalent and government tier inspiration - the PERi-ometer.

"For those willing to turn up the heat, the brand new can spice be added - as with all other heat levels - to an extensive list of menu items, from Nando's famous PERi-PERi chicken to The Great Imitator, its first ever plant-based alternative."

Vusa, which means excitement and fire in Zulu, is only going to be available for a short while as it's part of Nando's rotating guest flavours.

So if you fancy giving it a try, don't hang around.

The new saucy addition comes months after Nando's upped its vegan offerings with its Great Imitator plant-based option.

The Great Imitator will be served as four strips that are grilled to order. Nando's fans will still be able to turn up the heat, by choosing their desired level of spice on the PERi-ometer, as they would with the meat options - so you can go from the super mild Lemon & Herb all the way up to the new Vusa, if that's more your thing.

It even comes with a vegan-friendly mayonnaise and is available as a burger or in a pitta.

While the burger itself is vegan, Nando's won't be labelling it as such because it will be prepared on the same grills as the chicken so they can't guarantee that there won't be cross contamination.

The website does however state: "We do take rigorous steps to segregate our non-meat products from our meat products.

"We choose a specific part of the grill for our non-meat products and we use separate utensils for them too."

Dawn Carr, Director of Vegan Corporate Projects, PETA, said at the time: "PETA is delighted to have played a part in Nando's journey to putting this delicious plant-based chicken on the table.

"Nando's can't guarantee zero risk of cross-contamination, so it's not calling it vegan, but as all the ingredients in the burger and pitta versions are completely animal-free, cluck yes!"

You can get your hands on the Vusa Extra Extra Hot sauce via delivery, takeaway and click and collect right now.
