A promise is a promise, and noble is the man who makes a New Year's resolution to eat pizza. Specifically, 50 of them. Watch below:

Yes, it's that time of year again, where everyone's making ambitious pledges to become a better person with a bunch of New Year's resolutions - whether they involve joining the gym, giving up meat or simply promising to visit your Gran more regularly.

But while most of you will no doubt get a week into January before giving up in a fit of rage, this guy has come up with a very achievable goal.

It might surprise you to learn that this is the new year's resolution of John Schnatter, the founder of pizza chain Papa John's, who you'd have assumed already gets his fare share of doughy, cheesy goodness.

He posted an Instagram Story to reveal his grand plan, saying in a video: "Yo! Papa here, feeding the team. New Year's resolution for 2020? Fifty pizzas, 30 days. Fifty pizzas, 30 days."

He added: "Happy New Year's!"

Over on the grid, he also posted a photo and explained he'd be trying to beat his previous record of 40 pizzas in 30 days.

"My resolution for 2020 is to beat my record of 40 pizzas in 30 days,"⁣Schnatter said.

"What resolutions do you guys have for 2020?"

Schnatter stepped down as the CEO of Papa John's in January 2018, following comments he made the previous year criticising National Football League commissioner Roger Goodell, claiming he wasn't doing anything about national anthem protests from football players.

He then also resigned as a chairman of the board of directors in July 2018, amid a scandal surrounding his use of a racial slur when he alleged KFC founder Colonel Harland Sanders had used the term and it had not affected his popularity.

Schnatter then announced he'd managed to eat 40 pizzas in a month while giving an interview with Kentucky TV station WDRB, in which he criticised his former pizza chain for the supposed decrease in pizza quality pizza since he stepped down.

"I've had over 40 pizzas in the last 30 days, and it's not the same pizza," Schnatter said.

"It's not the same product. It just doesn't taste as good. The way they're making the pizza is just not fundamental to what makes a Papa John's pizza."

The bizarre claim soon turned into a meme, prompting Schnatter to up his game for the new year with 50 pizza in 30 days.
