Bacon is great. Fact. Whether it's a bacon butty when you're trying to fend off a hangover from hell, some nice, crisped-up rashers topping your burger or the best topping for a stack of pancakes, there are very few things that bacon doesn't improve.
The only thing is, it's not exactly famous for being particularly healthy, which kind of sucks.
However, according to Healthline, it's not all doom and gloom - as it turns out there are actually several health benefits of bacon.
The site claims that a typical 100g/3.5oz portion of cooked bacon not only contains 37g of high quality animal protein, but also vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and B12.
What's more, it also contains 89 percent of the recommended daily allowance for selenium, as well as 53 percent of the recommended daily allowance for phosphorus.
OH, and a bit of iron, magnesium, zinc and potassium.
Happy days, right? Well, sadly there's still the issue that bacon is packed with salt and, even more crucially, is a processed meat - something that's long been linked to health problems like cancer and heart disease.
According to HealthLine, the nutrients found in bacon are also found in other, less processed pork products - so you're probably better off going for those instead.
If you're not willing to make the swap, and still want to chow down on those bacon sarnies (in moderation, we should probably add), why not look to Stephen Grice for inspiration.
He's the man who has been religiously reviewing bacon butties online - having been testing them out while riding with the Newport Shropshire Cycling Club. He posts photos of his bacon sarnies to his Facebook page, along with a short, succinct evaluation of the bacon, the bread and the overall meal.
Love Pork even bestowed an award for Outstanding Services to Bacon earlier this year, sending him a letter that said: "It has been brought to our attention that you regularly go to great lengths to find the perfect bacon sandwich, and to point out deficiencies, so that establishments who fall short of perfection know the error of their ways.
"This letter is sent with heartfelt thanks for doing your bit to put Shropshire on the map when it comes to bacon."
Grice told LADbible he was in 'disbelief' when the unexpected honour, but it sounds very well deserved.
