Remember when we used to celebrate the clocks going back? Whether you stayed in to make the most of an extra hour in bed

Remember when we used to celebrate the clocks going back? Whether you stayed in to make the most of an extra hour in bed or revelled in being the first person to point it out in a club at 1am, it was a great time of year, second only really to Christmas. No, me neither.

There hasn't really ever been a reason to celebrate the onset of winter time keeping, but Uber Eats might just have created one: they're offering 50% off your first order this weekend. Simply quote the code EXTRAHOUR when you check out to get your discount (max discount £10, minimum spend £15). The offer will run all weekend so you have plenty of time to get the pizza/curry/Chinese in, all of it brought safely to your door via a courier on Uber Eats. It's safe, delicious and, thanks to the offer, even more reasonable than usual - that is, until the offer ends at 11:55pm on 25 October 2020.

Uber Eats has a fantastic range of restaurants available and you can get your order delivered contact-free. This means the app will notify you when the courier has arrived, and they'll leave the order at your door.

If, like me, you crave every possible hour in bed and are grateful to get an extra one for free, then this is cause for celebration. I then remember that my dog has no concept of time and will wake me up regardless at whatever he thinks is an appropriate hour and insist that it's outside time. Nevertheless, it's an event worth celebrating for the mere concept of extra sleep.

It's worth honouring so much that I might personally institute a Clocks Going Back Eve party, akin to Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, to be enjoyed the day before. Luckily, the offer on Uber Eats begins today, so it is possible to cherish this as it was intended. In fact, in these unprecedented times (I checked with the Journalists' Union and we have to use that phrase at least once per article now), it might come to be seen as an alternative to New Year's Eve.

Think about it: one holiday is about going out, meeting people, standing close together in confined spaces and sharing moments; the other is about staying in, keeping yourself to yourself a safe distance apart and doing what you enjoy. For me, that's enjoying a night of Netflix and chilli cheese fries until I drift off - for an hour longer than usual, too.
