A vegan social media influencer has shocked and angered her fans after revealing she was going on a 'carnivore diet' for 30 days.

Alyse Parker explained on her YouTube channel that she had ditched her meat and dairy free lifestyle and was only eating meat and animal products for one month.

She said: "Being vegan for almost five years, I know what it's like to lose myself in the identity of a diet culture and lose true open-mindedness."

But the change has angered her hundreds of thousands of fans on Instagram and YouTube, with many calling her out for eating meat.

But Alyse wrote on Instagram that she wanted to try the diet because she was curious.

She continued: "I'm a firm believer in experiencing things first hand and getting a real feel for what something is all about before I form a personal opinion on it.

"The carnivore diet first came into my awareness when a close friend shared with me all of the benefits that he was experiencing by eating this way. ⁣

"Coming from being vegan [for] 4.5 years, I was hella resistant to the concept of eating ONLY animal foods (aka only meat, seafood and eggs)⁣.

"But oddly enough, I started to hear story after story from my fellow vegan friends jumping ship, testing out the carnivore diet and experiencing amazing health transformations.⁣

"I was so confused."

Alyse admitted that since switching to meat she's felt 'more mentally clear, focused, wholesome, and healthy' than in the more than four years she's been vegan. The influencer added that the experience has been difficult because it has shattered her identity, which was built upon the idea of not eating meat or dairy.

She said: "I knew I needed to make decisions based on what was in the best interest for my health.⁣

"This past year of my life has been a journey of remembering who I am separate from what I eat.

"In hopes of challenging others to step out of their current perspective, I documented my newest challenge of eating only meat for 30 days.⁣"

Unsurprisingly, Ms Parker's army of vegan followers were upset that she was promoting a carnivore lifestyle.

One person wrote: "Eating meat is not just a 'thing to try again'. It's killing animals for food. It's killing nature. There's nothing healthy in that."

Another added: "Disgusting. That animal wanted to live. Shame on you for bashing veganism."
