A Scottish woman was left outraged after spotting a sweary note passing comment on her vegan diet while she was dining with her family.

Lisa Cooney had asked staff what vegan options were on the menu, and staff went off to ask the kitchen.

They came back with a note that read: "The vegan s***e has been circled."

The note, which may have been written by the chef, was given to waiting staff, but then fell from the bar and was spotted by a member of her family, who showed it to her.

Cooney was out for a meal at Ravelston House in Musselburgh, enjoying the fact that Covid-19 restrictions have been eased in Scotland, and asked staff if they could give her a steer as to what she could eat on the menu, as a vegan.

When the member of staff returned with a menu that had the vegan-friendly meals circled on it, Lisa and her family spotted the offensive note had dropped onto the floor.

Naturally, Lisa was angry and upset when she saw the content of the note. You would be, wouldn't you?

She told Edinburgh Live: "I dined today [May 30] for lunch with family who are visiting for the weekend.

"I asked what options were vegan and the barman said he would ask the chef, he came back with the menu which had the items circled and he put the note on the bar, it fell from the bar and my dad picked it up and showed it to me."

She continued: "When I first read it I was in disbelief, then I was angry and upset, it's insulting and so unprofessional. Also the total disregard for any potential allergy is a worry.

"For a chef to have that mentality is quite shocking. I went and spoke to the manager after my family had finished their meal. He apologised and agreed the note wasn't acceptable."

Despite being annoyed by the note, Lisa said that the assistant manager of the restaurant had spoken with her and her family as they left, and seemed to be 'much more understanding' about the situation.

It's worth pointing out at this stage that the note may not necessarily have been written by the chef.

Still, it's not exactly what you want to see when you're just out trying to have a lovely meal with your family.
