Wetherspoon Is Cutting Prices On A Bunch Of Drinks To Mark Brexit
Boss Tim Martin, who campaigned for Leave, will be knocking 60p off the price of 10 drinks, including French Grey Goose vodka, Beck's from Germany and Swedish Kopparberg.
The promotion will mean you can get a bottle of Peroni, a bottle Estrella Galicia of a single Bells and mixer for just £1.99, you'll also be able to get a single Grey Goose or Jameson with mixer for £2.99 or a bottle of Tyskie or Kopparberg for £2.49.
There's also savings on alcohol-free Becks, which is on sale for just 99p, a Beck's or pint of Ruddles for £1.49, a Krombacher for £2.49 - in Welsh pubs you'll also be able to get a single Penderyn and mixer for £2.99.
The Let's Stay Friends promotion runs throughout February - kicking off on 31 January and ending on 29 February - and is available in 700 of JD Wetherspoon's 870 pubs.
Martin said: "Many of our customers are keen to celebrate Brexit.
"At the same time we want to remain friends with our European neighbours and offer a range of drinks at an excellent price.
"In my opinion, there has been far too much political posturing in negotiations between the UK and the EU up until now.
"The UK should aim to treat all countries of the world equally by eliminating current protectionist tariffs on nearly 13,000 non-EU imports, which cause every person, and most businesses in the UK, to pay artificially high prices for everyday goods, including rice, oranges, wine and children's clothing and shoes."
In September last year Martin announced he would be pulling a bunch of European brands from sale in his pubs, including Jägermeister, in favour of non-EU alternatives.
He switched Jägermeister for an English herbal liqueur called Strika, replaced French Champagne with British and Aussie sparkling wine and French brandies Aussie brand Black Bottle or US best-seller E&J Brandy.
Speaking about the changes in 2018, Martin said: "The three new products will be offered at a lower price than those they are replacing.
"This is a significant move by us and highlights our commitment to offering an excellent range of UK and world products, with the emphasis on quality and value for the two million customers who visit our pubs each week.
"In blind tastings conducted by Wetherspoon, the new products were more popular than those they are replacing.
"All EU products have UK or non-EU replacements, often at equal or better quality and price."
