​You Can Now Buy Vegan Magnums

Ice cream is arguably one of the greatest things that dairy has given us - especially these days, when you can get everything from white chocolate Toblerone versions through to Kinder Bueno cones.

Yep, we're a far cry from the time when 99 Flakes and Screwballs were the most extravagant thing you could buy from the ice cream van, and frankly it feels pretty good to be this spoilt for choice.

But what if you can't eat dairy, either for ethical or dietary reasons? That changes things slightly, doesn't it?

Well, thankfully we also now live in a time when that doesn't matter, as companies are increasingly coming up with more and more dairy-free options - including, finally, the humble Magnum.

That's right, the widely-cherished ice cream favourite now has its very own vegan versions, with classic or almond flavours for you to choose from.

Magnum bills the classic version as 'a velvety Vegan ice cream dipped in chocolate couverture', while the almond one also has 'crunchy almond pieces'.

The ice cream giant trialled the vegan alternatives in Finland and Sweden, and following the success of the products there, it was finally decided that they'd be hitting UK shores - where they can now be found in Tesco stores for £3.69 for a pack of three.

According to the Metro, the ice cream inside each Magnum is made from pea protein, a dairy-free alternative, while the cocoa beans used for the chocolate shell are all from Rainforest Alliance-certified farms. The plant-based versions of the ice cream staple are also certified by the European Vegetarian Union.

Some people have already managed to track some down, and so far the reviews are pretty positive across the board.

One person tweeted: "Eating new vegan magnum ice cream it's so good I'm screaming.

Another wrote: "Magnum has started distributing the vegan version of their classic and almond ice cream in the UK. Can't wait to get my hands on some!"

One Twitter user even gave it full marks, gushing: "Vegan magnum <3 10/10 would eat again."

Someone else said: "All we need is a few more nice warm sunny days to enjoy."

That last one might be a bit optimistic given the recent drop in temperatures in the UK, but others are simply taking the opportunity to praise the now-booming vegan ice cream industry.

"What a time to be alive!" another Twitter user said. "Anything that makes plant-based options more accessible and appealing to all is brilliant. I'm excited. The speed of change is breathtaking."
