After birthdays and Christmas, one of the most exciting days of the year if you're a gaming fan is when the new PlayStation console goes on sale.
Next year, that should be sometime in the spring, when the PlayStation 5 is expected to go on sale, but images have been discovered that show what the console might look like. And whether these are the actual design or not, it looks to be a thing of sheer beauty.
The 3D renders of Sony's PlayStation 5 were created from illustrations in a mysterious patent application filed by Sony and unearthed earlier this week by LetsGoDigital earlier this week, and they offer a first glimpse of what the console might look like.
If the designs in the patent are legitimate - and of course there's a chance they're not, or that they're a red herring being used by Sony to confuse and/or deceive us all - the PS5 will be shaped like a V, which is of course the Roman numeral for five.
There are also vents lining all sides of the console in order to help keep it cool - in the renders, the vents are illuminated with blue lights. There are also multiple USB ports so users can connect other devices and accessories, and touch-sensitive buttons to power it on and off, eject discs and control Blu-Ray playback. Fancy.
It does look incredibly cool, but we're not going to get our hopes up that this is the final design - some people are claiming that it's merely a development kit, not a mock-up of the final design. And it obviously wouldn't have the Let'sGoDigital logo on there...
In response to the unearthed images, Matthew Stott, a senior artist at Codemasters, wrote on Twitter: "It's a dev kit, we have some in the office," before hastily deleting his tweet as it was probably in violation of an NDA.
We likely won't know for sure what the PS5 is going to actually look in real life until the day it's released, but seeing these images is still incredibly exciting. Unless, of course, the real design turns out to be terrible and these renders are much better than what we actually get. But that's definitely not going to happen...
