Finally, the true crime world has what it's been crying out for - a game that lets you solve a realistic murder case.

A step up from the traditional murder mystery party format, Unsolved Case Files allows players to live out their fantasies as a detective who is tasked with seeking out the killer using a set of case files.

To make the whole thing more realistic, the game takes place with real objects and requires internet access and a serious sense of curiosity.

Those who take part in solving the case will need to use evidence photos, newspaper clippings, crime scene photographs, blueprints, autopsies, arrest reports, medical records and witness statements to uncover the truth about what happened to the victim.

OK, the website is currently out of stock (at the time of writing) due to increased demand. But you'd imagine it'll be back in stock soon enough - and it's not surprising that stock has dwindled, especially after a woman's tweet about the game went viral.

"WHY TF DID NO ONE TELL ME THAT YOU CAN GET UNSOLVED CASE FILES AND ACTUALLY TRY TO SOLVE THE CASE??????" she wrote, alongside a video of a woman opening her files.

Plenty of people have commented expressing interest in having a go themselves, including one who asked: "OMG where can I get this?"

"I have watched enough FBI shows to love this!" said another.

Others were quick to offer recommendations for similar set-ups, with a third commenter writing: "There's actually a subscription you can do called Hunt A Killer. They actually teamed up with the Cold Case Foundations so they donate to solve real cases."

So if you and your pals fancy playing detectives for the day, bag yourself a case file, put on your sharpest suit and get cracking!

And if you simply can't wait til it's back in stock, there's an alternative - Amazon is offering a similar game called iDventure Detective Stories.

If this sounds like your cup of tea, head to the online retailer page where you can buy the first instalment - 'Case 1, The fire in Adlerstein' - for just £25.48.

According to the official description: "In our game, you will act as a real detective to investigate the case of a suspected fire that took place in the city of Adlerstein and led to the death of a citizen.

"Because of arson with fatal consequences, a journalist is charged. He collected much evidence to prove his innocence.

"You must determine if he is telling the truth and find the true criminal. The game is conceived as a realistic criminal case and requires investigations similar to those carried out by the criminal police in real life."
