It's available to book a stay there on Airbnb too

A crafty dad from Merseyside decided to put his considerable skills to the test by turning his back yard into his very own version of the Love Island garden.

Well, everybody has to find their own way to occupy their time during the lockdown, don't they?

This effort, whether you like Love Island or not, is pretty damn impressive.

After all, with the actual Love Island cancelled this summer, not to mention loads of people's holidays going down the drain, we all need a nice place to retreat and enjoy some of the glorious weather we've been having.

Also, to give you that extra shove off the couch, Checkatrade has helpfully compiled a guide for everything that you'll need to get - and how much it'll cost - to create your own piece of paradise in the back garden.

What's more, it's the perfect place to have a faux-serious 'chat' with that special someone in your life.

Derry Green, 37, created this unusual masterpiece when he realised he wouldn't be able to return to his usual workplace in Spain due to the restrictions in place.

That left him with a load of time on his hands whilst he was 'stuck at home'.

He began his creation back on 1 April, and it has now reached completion. Love Island fan or not, it's got decking, it's got a fire pit, and he's only a couple of cold beers away from having the perfect afternoon outside.

He explained: "I am always building something, whether it be a tree house for the kids or working on the house.

"With the kids being off school and trying to find things to do, we decided to build something that we could create a holiday for ourselves."

By the time he was finished, the garden at their house in Rainford was completely transformed. Because he enlisted the help of his two kids - aged five and eight - he's managed to dream big, and get the job done.

Derry continued: "As [the] weeks turned into months it started to grow larger and more luxurious, to the point where it's at now. It grew bigger and bigger until I had made a full glamping pod with hot tub, sauna, heated outdoor shower - a miniature Love Island!"

Derry admits that he's 'always looking at different ideas and things [he] can do' and isn't the sort of guy to 'just sit around and watch Netflix'.

He added: "I want to do something constructive with my free time.

"It has been a lot of hard work, especially with certain things where you could do with two pairs of hands."

Ultimately, after spending eight hours each day on his creation, it's been '100 percent worth it'.

He said: "Me and the kids are sleeping in there every night at the moment and they absolutely love it!

"Even to the point where we pack up the car like we're actually going camping, drive to the end of the road, turn around and come back and pretend that we've arrived at our destination.

"The kids are amazed by it. They actually called it 'the secret garden' and see it as a place to play and have fun.

"The time spent over the past several weeks doing this with the kids has been some of the best weeks I've had in my entire life."

The response has been incredible. After sticking the glamping pod on Airbnb for a laugh, he's had 160 bookings and 1,000 messages in a day.

Is this the project that finally turns Rainford into the tourist hotspot that it has always threatened to become?
