Co-Workers Surprise Teenager With Jeep So He Can Drive To Work

Best co-workers ever.

19-year-old Derrick Taylor was given a Jeep by his colleagues at UPS! It is nice to know you're appreciated! And that is one great present.

Derrick has been working since he was 14 to support his sick mum and pays all of the bills. What a man.

He's been working at UPS for a year. But since he can't afford a car he walks five miles in the middle of the night to start his 4am shift loading and unloading vans. Then he walks the five miles home.

Walking 10 miles a day on top of a long shift of manual labour? That's far too much.

His colleagues offered him lifts, but he was too proud to accept a ride both ways. And he hasn't been accepting money or help from his older siblings to look after his sick mum - he's determined to do it all himself.

So his colleagues bought him a Cherokee Jeep for £1,000 from a local dealer so he could drive to and from work.

"The group here, we've got some good news for you. Everybody came together and you don't have to walk no more. You've got your own ride," his colleague said to him, handing him the keys.

"We want you to know we appreciate your hard work," James Williams, Derrick's supervisor, said.

Derrick told the Daily Mail he was amazed by his colleague's generosity.

"I was overwhelmed with joy. No one had ever done anything like that for me so it made me cry and I'm not really the type to show my emotions."

Wiping away tears, he said: "There were days when I walked there and you know caught a ride home and there were days I caught a ride there and walked home because I didn't wanna ask anyone to take me.

"I didn't want to bother people but it's a good eight to ten miles."

"I wanna move up at UPS and become a driver and with the money I make as a driver I want to invest into something profitable. I really wanna go to school and get a degree in business and music engineering."

And then to celebrate, he took his girlfriend Miriam for a spin in his new car. Nice one!
