A massive scavenger hunt has been announced to hit Melbourne just before Christmas.

Hunts like these regularly capture people's attention because, hey, who doesn't love running around a place searching for clues to get a prize at the end?

But this hunt in particular is edgy for an even better reason: it's Harry Potter themed.

Hopefully, the team putting this together have been approved by Warner Bros. otherwise they can expect one hell of a Cease and Desist letter in the mail.

Thankfully, it's in conjunction with Harry Potter and the Cursed Child production currently running in Victoria's capital and people can expect to run around the city and look for wizarding clues and riddles as well as complete missions

Cursed Child performer Gareth Reeves said in a statement: "After meeting so many passionate Harry Potter fans this season, we could not be more excited to be spending Christmas in Melbourne.

"We can't wait to see the Magical Christmas Quest come to life and to join Melburnians in their race around to some of the Christmas festival's iconic destinations dressed in their Harry Potter best."

Now, while you don't have to specifically dress up in your best Hogwarts gear, why would you do this without at least a wand or poked out, lensless, round glasses?

The City of Melbourne is helping put on the big hunt and you can win loads of different prizes, including tickets to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The first clue will be posted on the City of Melbourne's Christmas website on December 15 at 9am so make sure you have wands at the ready.
