A doctor has shared the three early morning habits you might be doing that will leave you feeling tired later in the day. If you're anything like me, you'll be doing all three and things are suddenly making more sense.

Dr Karan Raj regularly shares videos with his four million followers, offering advice on everything from sleeping in socks to how best to deal with a hangover.

In his latest video he's shared the energy zapping morning habits you might be guilty of.

Sharing the clip, the NHS doctor said: "Three mistakes you make every morning.

"You press the snooze button. This convinces your body that you are entering another sleep cycle, causing you to release hormones that induce more sleep.

"Then when you do get out of bed, your body is full of sleep chemicals that keeps you tired for another four hours."

He then goes on to talk about something which I reckon about 90 percent of people do - reaching for your phone as soon as you're awake.

He went on: "Checking your phone as soon as you wake up. When you wake up in the morning, your brain gradually increases your alertness - going from delta to theta to alpha brain wave.

"Looking at your phone skips the theta and alpha brain wave, putting you on edge.

Finally, Dr Karan talks about why it's pretty pointless to treat yourself to an early morning coffee to get yourself going.

He said: "You drink coffee as soon as you wake up. Maximum cortisol is produced between 8 and 9, which naturally wakes you up.

"Drinking coffee between these times means you're not getting the most out of the caffeine's stimulatory effect.

"Instead, save it for when your cortisol dips."

The clip has sparked debate on TikTok, with some refusing to relinquish their coffee and snooze buttons and others keen to give the tips a try.

One person said: "But but but Doc... those extra five snoozes are the best part of the morning."

Another joked: "People are not safe around me until I've had my morning coffee."

While a third person said: "Cheers, Doc. Amazing info as always."
