The jailed Sinaloa cartel boss 'El Chapo' wasn't there to walk his daughter down the aisle as he's currently serving a life sentence at a US prison dubbed the 'Alcatraz of the Rockies'.
Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman is considered to have been the most powerful drug trafficker in the world, and was at one point considered to be the number one target of the US government prior to his incarceration.
In a scene slightly reminiscent of The Godfather ("Instead, you come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married, and you ask me to do murder, for money...") the famous drug lord was absent from the wedding but his first wife Maria stepped in for important duties like the father-daughter dance.

Daughter Alejandrina wed groom Edgar Cazares, in a private ceremony at a cathedral in Mexico's Culiacan, where the Sinaloa cartel is based. Edgar is the nephew of Blanca Margarita Cazares Salazar, another alleged senior figure in the drug trafficking world dubbed 'The Empress' of the drug trafficking world.
Photos shared to Maria's Instagram account show a row of luxury armoured cars parked outside of the ceremony, as the cathedral was sealed off to the public and under heavy security. Heavily-armed drug cartel hitmen provided security for the event while senior figures were among the guests, according to local reports.
Ovidio Guzman Lopez, one of El Chapo's sons, was also reported to be in attendance at the wedding, which was presided over by a priest who is close to the Guzman family.
Posting to her instagram, Maria shared photos and videos of the bride and groom's first dance, and the couple watching fireworks exploding in the night sky.

The wedding took place in January, but the images didn't emerge until later. Edgar proposed to Alejandrina during a ski trip, which Maria also captured and shared on her Instagram account.
