You Can Stay At This Hobbit Hole In Donegal

The CroPod in rural Donegal has its own mountain, seven lakes and you get woken up by sheep. What's not to love?

Now I know what you're thinking when you see that headline. A small, hairy people, intrinsically good-natured but a little bit backwards and remote. I'm not going to go there - you just went there all by yourself.

But it is true: you can stay in Hobbiton, or as near as you can get to it without travelling all the way to New Zealand, right here in Ireland. In Donegal.

The hotel pod is listed on Airbnb for a pretty reasonable price of €80 a night, perfect for a staycation, and is located in the beautiful expanses of Ireland's most wild and windswept county, which is saying something given that basically the entire country falls into the wild and windswept category.

Their Airbnb listing describes the "CroPod" as: "An amazing contemporary mountain pod inspired by Irish archaeology and under new ownership, this bespoke 'one-off' retreat is a perfect 'minimoon'/Honeymoon destination in a wilderness landscape. Walk to the secluded beach or up 'your' mountain to discover the seven lakes."

Secluded beaches. Seven lakes. Your own bloody mountain. This does sound absolutely amazing. I can't tell you where it is, because that's not public information - you just have to book it to find out for yourself. To be honest, were it public, I would probably head right there now and try to isolate for as long as possible and forget that 2020 ever happened.

Unsurprisingly, the place can boast a near-perfect 4.89 out of 5 rating, with almost a hundred people having stayed there and loved it. Highlights included "On a clear night you can see every star," from one reviewer, another called it "the ultimate escape" and a third wrote "waking up to sheep on the doorstep and the sun rising was magical."

Amen to that, even the sheep.
