Laboratory In Australia Is Paying People $25 For Every Poo They Donate

But the lab isn't looking for just anyone's log

Think about how many times you go to the bathroom in a single day. You don't really gain anything from the experience except for maybe feeling a bit lighter.

But what if we told you there was a way for you to get paid for your poo.

Yes, there is a laboratory in South Australia that is giving people $25 for every faecal donation they make.

BiomeBank is Australia's first public stool bank and it helps people with debilitating infections or chronic bowel conditions get better via faecal transplants.

Essentially, they take the good bacteria from a donor's poo and then transplant that into someone who has an issue with their gut.

BiomeBank says on its website: "Stool donated by healthy donors is processed by mixing the stool with saline and glycerine. This takes place within a sealed vacuum and oxygen deplete container which replicates the conditions of the bowel and ensures the best gut bacteria remain viable.

"A minus 80 degree freezer then stores the processed stool until needed. A dry ice courier transports it to hospital where it can be thawed out and used as required. The faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is given via colonoscopy or enema into the patient's large bowel."

The stool bank says one in 250 Australians suffer from inflammatory bowel disease, meaning their work is very important.

But they're not looking for just any Aussie to deliver their steaming, hot logs; they're looking for a very particular person.

The bank says: "Essentially we look for healthy individuals without medical problems and who are not on medication. Unfortunately this excludes people with some conditions, such as diabetes or obesity.

"Our screening process involves a medical questionnaire and examination to ensure there are not any active medical problems. A blood test and stool test is also undertaken to screen for disease. If everything comes up clear, we can then use your stool."

Imagine getting $25 for all your healthy poo. That would pay for your chicken schnitty at the pub.

Doctors have been exploring the potential benefits for FMT, which is commonly used to treat complications from antibiotic therapy. It's also being used on people with IBS, MS, autism and Parkinson's to see if it makes a difference, according to the ABC.

So if you're a healthy person, fill out this form and you could be on your way.
