Man Who Made £50 Christmas Advert Has Just Released This Year's Heartwarming Ad

And not an animated dragon in sight...

A man who made his own emotional Christmas advert for just £50 last year, putting the likes of John Lewis, Iceland and Aldi to shame, has just released this year's follow-up version. See where you think this stacks up against the blockbuster Christmas adverts.

If you're the kind of person who absolutely loves being made to feel things by Christmas adverts encouraging you to shop in a particular department store, you'll love this.

Hey, even if you're the kind of cynical crank who hates being told to feel stuff for the purposes of capitalism, this is still fine.

In 2014, on a budget of just £50, Gloucestershire's Phil Beastall produced 'Love Is A Gift'. It showed a man ticking off the days until Christmas, only to reach the big day and open a pre-recorded message from his deceased mum.

She'd recorded him a cassette tape for each year after her passing. This one was the last.

It's pretty strong stuff, even for those old cynics among us.

The end message read: "Love is a gift, that lasts forever. Merry Christmas."

The video went viral last year, with many even deeming it superior to John Lewis's Elton John effort. Millions of people watched and were moved by it. That led him to release another.

This year, he's brought us 'Made For You'.

In this edition, the short film features a long distance relationship played out over iPads and mobile phone texts. Without ruining the emotional journey for anyone, it concludes with a heartfelt proposal after the two are finally reunited in the living room at Christmas.

It's sweet, to say the least. Sure, no Christmas trees are burned by animated creatures, but there is genuine emotion therein.

Beastall wrote on Twitter: "Christmas is a time for happiness, love and belonging. I'm excited to share this year's Christmas film."

Ahead of the much-anticipated release of the video, Beastall wrote: "I'm excited to announce that on Sun 17 Nov I will be releasing my new Christmas film.

"Last year was huge for me when 'Love is a Gift' went viral and was viewed around the world by millions with the original post shared 200,000 times!"

Admittedly, it doesn't feature an excitable dragon, or some sprouts dressed as characters from a popular TV show, but - you'd have to admit - it cuts a bit deeper to the core of what Christmas is supposed to be about.

Perhaps we'd do well to remember that this year.
