Study Suggests That Scottish Is The Sexiest Accent In The UK

Study Suggests That Scottish Is The Sexiest Accent In The UK

Great news for the Scots, but grim reading for the Scouse.

The Scottish accent has been voted as the most sexy in the UK, according to a new study.

This particular survey - and there have been many, with varying results - asked 2,000 people for their opinions on the perceived 'sexiness' of accents, and found that in the UK, living north of the border is the best.

However, the news isn't so great for those who live on Merseyside, as the Scouse accent was voted the least sexy of all.

Come on, that seems a bit unfair, doesn't it?

This exhaustive and rigorous scientific research was performed by dating app happn, and they found that the Scots received 21 percent of the votes as the sexiest voice.

Just behind them in second place was the Geordie accent, with Welsh coming in third.

In fourth, we have to take the short hop across the Irish sea to the North of Ireland, then it's the Queen's English - posh, to you and me - in fifth place.

After having been voted to the top in the past, the Cockney accent was voted as the second least sexy this time around, which will surely be a crushing blow to natives of the English capital.

If you're from Birmingham, you're probably used to getting absolutely dogged by these sorts of polls, so perhaps only being third bottom is something of a result this time around?

Leeds and Essex round out the bottom five.

Bad luck for those from the wonderful city of Liverpool.

In terms of what these exciting figures actually mean, they did perform some further analysis.

The language boffins did determine that more than half of people in the UK - 53 percent, to be exact - alter the way that they speak when they're talking to someone that they fancy.

One out of every five people also changes their own accent to tone it down because they're self-conscious.

Ipel Kucuk, a relationship expert from happn, had this to say: "There are so many qualities singles want in a prospective partner, and the way someone sounds is ranking high on that list.

"It's clear that what is being said is vital, but the HOW seems to be a new essential factor.

"At happn, we are launching 'happn voice'.

"Users can leave a voice-note on their own profile and listen to the voices of others. We want connections made online to be as true to life as possible, and hearing the way your Crush sounds will achieve this."

The Toon fared well in the voting.
