Astronaut Scott Kelly Gives A Pretty Decent Reason Why The Earth Is Not Flat

He also revealed what space smells like...

One of the big things that Flat Earthers hold dear to them is the idea that no one has actually seen our planet far enough away to prove that it's what they say it is. Any photo by NASA or any other space agency that's uploaded onto various Flat Earth social media pages is routinely shot down by 'believers' for being digitally altered or faked.

But what if they heard from someone who, I don't know, has actually been to space?

Well astronaut Scott Kelly has given his thoughts about the idea that the Flat Earth theory is still around in the 21st century, despite all evidence to the contrary.

During a Twitter Q&A session, he told his fans: "So, the Flat Earthers. Hmmm. Well, I've seen Earth from space and it's clearly round. The other question I would have for people who think the Earth is flat is that if the Earth was flat, wouldn't the edge be a really popular vacation spot? I know I would want to look over that edge."

People watching the answer agreed that the entire theory is absurd, with one person writing: "Thank you for the reply! It amazes me in the face of first hand experience like yours and satellite photos and video they still deny the truth."

But that wasn't the only topic covered by the man who set the record for the most amount of accumulated days spent in space. He said the scariest thing about being in space was the idea that if something happened to his kids or loved ones on Earth, he wouldn't be able to see them quickly.

Mr Kelly revealed that space smells like burning metal, welding or when sparklers are lit; which is pretty interesting considering that space is just a huge, black vacuum. The 53-year-old added that he's certainly appreciated the small things in life since landing back on Earth.

He said: "I think everyone who flies in space for a long time appreciates the stuff that you miss on Earth more. I still appreciate the things I might not have had like the weather and freedom of choice."

But while he soaks up all the beauty that our planet has to offer, his first few moments back on solid ground were rough. Scott says he felt nauseous dizzy and he found it hard to walk; however luckily that was only temporary.

Through his understanding of just how big the universe is, he reckons there is no way that we're alone.
