Mysterious Aeroplane Appears In Bali And No One Knows Why

A mystery plane that may have been intended to become a restaurant has turned up on a farm in Bali, Indonesia

Over the years, there have been a handful of cases of aircraft going missing, never to be found. But now one plane has mysteriously pitched up in the most unexpected of places - on an Indonesian farm.

Katka and Mic, the Slovenian duo behind the travel blog We Just Travel, were travelling in Bali, Indonesia, when they spotted and snapped photos of a Boeing 737.

The plane, somewhat overgrown with plants and covered in dirt, appears to have been there for quite a while, though the bloggers weren't able to get to the bottom of its appearance.

Locals believe the plane's owner may have been planning to turn it into a restaurant, only to run out of money.

Writing on the blog, Mic and Katka said: "I've read on the Internet that this was supposed to be a restaurant and the containers are full of kitchenware and other appliances. Something went wrong with documentation and now everything just sits there.

"The plane was transported there in parts and then assembled there again. Not sure that this is the truth but it's what I've read! To me, it does look a bit scary to see this huge and abandoned plane just resting there in the canyon."

Tourists have been flocking to see the plane since word got out about it, but the landowner is reported not to be keen on people getting close.

If the story is true, it may seem like a madcap idea, but it wouldn't be the first time someone opened a restaurant inside a disused plane. And besides, it's still better than Wimpy.

A McDonald's restaurant in Taupo, New Zealand, opened in 1990, located inside a decommissioned DC3 propellor plane, while there are other plane restaurants around the world in places as far flung as Ghana and Costa Rica.

I went to a plane restaurant once, but I didn't enjoy it at all. The restaurant moved up in the air really quickly, then sat more or less still for seven hours and before dropping down in Abu Dhabi, and it was bloody roasting when I got outside. The food was good though.
