Interesting Facts About Jess Watkins
Here are a few interesting things we found out about Jess Watkins.
Speaking in an Instagram video about a local campaign she was backing, Jess said she’d been playing football since she was seven-years-old.
In the same IGTV video, Jess said she started posting content on TikTok during lockdown just for fun and to bust the boredom of being stuck at home. At first, Jess said she posted random things and just jumped on trends on the app. Now, she posts almost exclusively about football.
“Posting videos and just training has really helped with my mental health during lockdown because it’s just given me something to do,” she said. “I think hopefully I’ve helped other people on my TikTok with doing my training sessions.”
Jess was asked on TikTok why she plays for Hounslow - a women’s amateur football team. Jess answered in a video by pointing to scenes from the 2002 film Bend it Like Beckham starring Keira Knightly. Jess said she grew up watching it and it’s clear Knighthly’s character (who was also named Jess) has inspired her a lot.
Like Jess in the movie, Jess speaks out regularly about parents and teachers discouraging girls who want to play football.
