If you ever wondered how one of the world's most recognisable whisky brands came to be, you're in for a real treat.

A documentary detailing the fascinating story of Scotch whisky legend Johnnie Walker is currently in the works, with the flick to be directed by BAFTA award winner Anthony Wonke.

The Man Who Walked Around the World will follow the story of Walker himself, who, as a young boy in Scotland, began blending whisky in a grocer's shop in 1820 and would later go on to become the creator of one of the world's most iconic brands.

The doco will delve into the liquor's fascinating beginnings, from its creation in the town of Kilmarnock, to its links to the battle fields of Iraq; from political protests in South America, to the spiritual world of Myanmar.

The film will also examine how this liquid gold became so important to so many, and how the world-recognised brand has remained popular even two centuries on from its humble beginnings.

And you thought it was just a drink.

The documentary will also feature a whole bunch of celeb appearances, including Wu-Tang Clan's Cappadonna, actress and activist Sophia Bush, rock musician Zakk Wylde, 88rising's Sean Miyashiro, advertising legend Sir John Hegarty and many more.

Director Anthony Wonke said of the film: "The story of Johnnie Walker is fascinating. It explores the alchemy of a brand and what it takes to create an icon. It has punch and depth - a brilliant history packed with intrigue and romanticism."

"Dig deeper and we find it has the potential to be so much more - a story about what makes us human, the things we can achieve and what keeps pushing us forward."

Wonke added that he felt compelled to make the documentary after seeing Johnnie Walker's cultural impact across popular culture, along with his own fascination for the rich 200-year history of the legendary liquor brand.

"The symbol of the Striding Man seems to be everywhere in some shape or form and has taken on a significance of its own. It kind of transcended a brand to become truly iconic," he explained.

"We've been on an amazing journey, going through years' worth of footage and speaking to people from all walks of life to create this film - actors, musicians, barmen, artists, activists and a whole host more. It's a fantastic story."
